
The Clinton High School Alumni Association (CHSAA) is pleased to announce its 2025 scholarship winners. This year is the 25th consecutive year that CHSAA has awarded scholarships to graduating CHS seniors.
"Go Arrows" Scholarship Award
Faith Taylor will pursue a degree in Accounting/Supply Chain Logistics at Mississippi State University. While at CHS, Taylor has maintained a stellar academic record while being involved with various extracurricular activities, including the Lady Arrows Soccer team.
One of her teachers noted that she "offers much more than just academic excellence. (She has)...blanced athletics, jobs, and school activities alongside her excellent grades."
Further to her service mindset, "when she was in the 5th grade, she was part of creating an organization called Starting with Clinton. This organization would receive donations and send food home with students during weekends and school breaks to families in need."
"Go Arrows" Scholarship Award
Jailyn Williams will enroll at Xavier university of Louisiana to major in Premedical Psychology as a first step toward her goal of becoming a pediatrician or pediatric psychologist. Giving back to her community is an important way of acknowledging how her community has given to her. She wants to "ensure that children receive the support they need to thrive."
Among Williams' most remarkable qualities, as described by one reference, was "(her) unwavering work ethic and determination. .....consistently striving for excellence, both academically and in extracurricular activities, as well as exceptional leadership and ability to inspire others."
Another reference added that "she is a bright, hardworking and confident students....deeply involved with many school organizations and understands the pride that comes with being a Clinton student and future alumni."
Brecken J. Anderson Scholarship
The Brecken J. Anderson Scholarship was established in 2024 and is awarded to a graduating senior who will be majoring in Nursing. The winner of the inaugural Brecken J. Anderson Scholarship is Gabrielle Morris.
Gabrielle Morris will enroll at Grambling State University this fall as she seeks a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She ultimately plans to obtain a master's degree at a CRNA school.
Morris' aspirations to pursue a nursing career began in 2018 when she participated in a health science program. That experience resulted in her sensing that "I belonged in an environment where I could assist vulnerable patients with medical emergencies. "
Morris' subsequent involvement in healthcare/nursing included: volunteering at UMMC, competing is HOSA activities renewing her CPR certification, shadowing a gastroenterologist, and participating in summer health programs.
As noted by one of her references, "Gabrielle has taken a rigorous course load, demonstrating her academic drive and readiness for the demands of higher education. ....She has demonstrated reliability, dedication, and initiative in all aspects of her life."
Ida Hope Thornton Scholarship
The Ida Hope Thornton Scholarship was established in 2013 and is awarded to a graduating senior who will be majoring in English ,Journalism, or an Agriculture-related field of study. The winner of the 2025 Ida Hope Thornton Scholarship is James Farr.
James Farr will enroll at Hinds Community College with plans to subsequently attend Mississippi State University and pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Animal & Dairy Science on his way to a degree in Veterinary Medicine.
Actively involved in 4-H throughout his high school career, Farr also played on the Arrow Football team and was named to the 2024 First Team Defensive Line for Class 7A in Region 2.
One reference note that "he always shows up on time to provide help or assistance." Another reference stated that "he has demonstrated a remarkable balance of intellect, leadership, and hands-on experience."
John S. Weatherly Scholarship
The John S. Weatherly Scholarship was established in 2022 by Dr. Jenifer Weatherly Ingle in memory of her father who graduated from CHS in 1970.
Faith Taylor is the 2025 John S. Weatherly Scholarship winner. She will pursue a degree in Accounting/Supply Chain Logistics at Mississippi State University. Taylor has enjoyed solving puzzles from an early age. This activity ultimately led her to "combine my interests and explore the field of forensic accounting."
Taylor stated that, in addition to focusing on her coursework at the college level, she wants to take advantage of internship opportunities as well as participating in intramural soccer.
One of her references stated that "she is one of the hardest-working students that I have ever taught. .....I am impressed at her ability to manage her time and tasks well, even under pressure.”
